Selected food item retail prices
Inflation & Prices · Source: NBS · monthly
International comparability — CSA: Economic · CPI Manual 2020Average retail prices of selected food items in Nigeria, in nominal Naira, published monthly by the National Bureau of Statistics in its Selected Food Price Watch. Individual food items are carried on a per-item breakdown, with pack or portion sizes shown in each item's label. Figures are reported at the national level and for the six geopolitical zones; there is no per-state tier, because the National Bureau of Statistics publishes state prices only as chart images in the report rather than as machine-readable data. The national figure is the average of the state averages and the zone figures are zone averages; both are averages, not sums, and should not be added together. The current monthly data run from November 2024; an earlier national-only set of item prices for 2019 (from the Annual Abstract of Statistics) is retained for historical reference. Where the item basket was repackaged between December 2024 and January 2025, the earlier and later item labels are both kept. Source: National Bureau of Statistics.

Grouped bar chart
Why this chart?
Few named regions split by category — grouped bars compare them directly; a 6-shape choropleth would waste the map.
Chosen: Grouped bar chart · auto-selected from the data profile.
Figures are in nominal naira — the amounts as reported for each period, not adjusted for inflation. Over a multi-year span, part of any increase reflects rising prices rather than real growth.
Both downloads carry every observation — geography, period, value, unit and source — and reconstruct the whole series.

Earlier vintage — not directly comparable
This series carries Maize grain yellow sold loose for the twelve months of 2019 only, national, as printed in the NBS Annual Abstract of Statistics. The continuing measure is the NBS Selected Food Price Watch run — monthly from November 2024, national plus the six geopolitical zones, every item on a food_item breakdown — which is the canonical source for this price. The two do not overlap in period, so they are cross-referenced and must not be spliced into one continuous line. For public browsing the 2019 items are served together as "Selected Food Prices by Item, 2019 (Annual Abstract of Statistics)".
