Total customers
This series tracks the total number of electricity customers on the books of Nigeria's 11 distribution companies (DisCos), monthly from January 2015 to December 2025. The national base stood at 12,163,412 in December 2025, down 8.5% year on year. It fell sharply between March and April 2025 — by 1,986,881 (14.7%) in a single month — a level shift that had not reversed by year-end.
Metered customers
This series records electricity customers billed on a metered basis across Nigeria's 11 distribution companies, monthly from January 2015 to December 2025. Metered customers reached an all-time high of 6,966,584 in December 2025, up 756,223 (12.2%) year on year — the largest annual increase in the 11-year record. Their share of all customers rose from 46.7% (December 2024) to 57.3%, breaking a 45–47% band held since 2015.
Estimated customers
This series covers unmetered, or “estimated”, electricity customers — those billed by estimation rather than by meter — across Nigeria's 11 distribution companies, monthly from January 2015 to December 2025. Estimated customers fell to 5,196,828 in December 2025, down 1,889,613 (26.7%) year on year from a 2024 peak. Most of the drop came in one month: down 1,817,209 (25.3%) between March and April 2025, a level shift that had not reversed by year-end.

Heatmap
Why this chart?
Two breakdowns (category × category) across a small, labelled 11-row grid — each row is shaded on its own scale so the pattern reads honestly.
Chosen: Heatmap · auto-selected from the data profile.
Both downloads carry every observation — institution, period, value, unit and source — and reconstruct the whole series.

Definitional difference
NERC Metered Customers counts all metered customers (prepaid plus postpaid). It is distinct from the TCN Consumers with Prepaid Meters (PPM) series (2018-2022), which counts prepaid meters and carries a data-quality caveat. This NERC monthly series is the canonical metered-customer figure.
